Authorities have identified a police officer and an 18-year-old he shot and killed after police said the teenager pulled a handgun following a foot chase.
North Las Vegas Police Officer Chrissie Coon said 33-year-old Michael Eggers was on paid leave Monday pending a departmental investigation and a Clark County coroner's inquest of the 7:20 p.m. Friday slaying near Ann Road and Revere Street.
The coroner identified the dead teenager as Tyrise Marquies Bell of North Las Vegas.
Eggers has been a police officer for 16 months. Coon said he and another officer suffered minor injuries scuffling with Bell.
Coon said police recovered a gun Bell allegedly pulled after running when the officers tried to stop him and another person.
The coroner said Bell died of multiple gunshot wounds.
